Tips I Wish I Knew When I Started Using Makeup

I started using makeup at the age of 14, and oh man I did so many mistakes... But oh well, I was starting out and I didn't had nobody that would tell me what I was doing wrong or tips to help me do my makeup better, but over the years I've learned so many tips through bloggers and youtubers, and also I've learned some by myself. So if you want to know some makeup tips to help you do your makeup even better, keep reading! ↓

Eu comecei a maquilhar-me aos 14 anos, e meu deus eu fiz tanta asneira...

- Have a good skincare routine, don't be like me and only use cleanser and tonic (I did this until last month), you NEED to have a complete skincare routine, it will make your face look a lot better with and without makeup (and makeup will apply a lot better)!
- Use primer, your foundation will last a lot longer and if you have oily skin or large pores if you use the right primer it will make a huge difference;
- If you are oily, and you feel that you need to touch up your forehead with powder, blot first with paper and then apply powder on top;
- Do your eye makeup first, if you mess up your eyeliner or if you get some fallout from eyeshadow it's easier to clean;
- When doing your eyebrows, don't fill them in completely, do brush strokes along your eyebrows, they will look a lot more natural!
- To make your eyeshadow last longer, apply eyeshadow primer first and then set it with a skin tone eyeshadow;
- Always choose your foundation color based on your neck color, and when you swatch it make sure you go under different lights to see if the color really matches you;
- There should always be a two finger space between your mouth and where your blush starts;
- Line your waterline with a nude eye pencil to make your eyes look bigger and more awake;
- The key for a perfect eyeshadow look is: blend, blend, blend!
- Good quality brushes make a huge difference, it doesn't mean that you have to buy really expensive brushes like Sigma, Morphe has great ones too!
- DON'T sleep with your makeup on!! I think everyone does/did this, but it's so bad for your skin! You can be really tired but always take your makeup off, apply your skincare and then go to bed, your skin will thank you later!
- Know your skin. Know your skin type, and what your skin needs. If you are dry, use makeup products that help you with the dryness (ex. don't use a matte foundation if you have dry skin, it will make your dry patches show up a lot). This is very important!
- Last but not least, use setting spray when you finish your makeup. It will make the powders on your face blend with your skin and that way you don't look "powdery", will make your makeup last longer and make your skin more dewy/matte depending on what setting spray you're using.

- Utiliza um primer, a tua base vai durar muito mais e se tiveres pele oleosa ou poros abertos se usares o primer correto vai fazer uma diferença enorme;
- Se tens pele oleosa, e sentes necessidade de retocar a maquilhagem na zona t com pó, tira o excesso de óleo primeiro com um papel e depois aplica o pó;
- Faz a maquilhagem de olhos primeiro, assim se borrares a "cauda" do delineado ou cair sombra para a zona das olheiras é muito mais fácil de limpar;
- Para fazer com que a sombra de olhos dure mais, aplica primer de sombras primeiro e depois fixa-o com uma sombra da cor da pele;
- Escolhe sempre a cor da tua base baseada na cor do teu pescoço, e quando fizeres um swatch põe-te debaixo de várias luzes para teres a certeza que escolheste a cor certa;
- Deve haver sempre dois dedos de espaço entre a tua boca e onde o teu blush começa;
- Aplica um lápis nude na linha de água para fazer com que os teus olhos pareçam maiores e mais "acordados";
- Conhece a tua pele.

  5. I 100% agree with this post! It was so easy to make mistakes years ago when youtube wasn't really that popular yet and you only had magazines to guide you. I think for me the biggest change was to spend my money more effectively and put it towards better quality products instead of many cheap lip glosses!

  7. Great tips! I think we all learn a thing or two after establishing our own little makeup and skincare routines. My best tip would be to take care of your skin first. If you have a good foundation, then things will sit nicely on top.

  13. I've thankfully never been one to sleep with makeup on, I just hate that feeling! I have to say I don't do my eye makeup first though, I don't know why that's just never felt like a natural thing for me to do.
